The Sweet Clementines were founded in 2006 in New Paltz, NY, by John Burdick, Chris Tanis, and Chelsea Lacatena Galvin. With Burdick and Tanis writing new songs every week, the acoustic trio's repertoire grew quickly, and the band released an EP in 2007. Soon thereafter, they were joined by bassist Jason Sarubbi and drummer Matt Senzatimore. The EP More Sweet on You was recorded by Sarubbi at Utopia Soundstage in Woodstock, NY and released in 2008. Chelsea left the band in 2009 and was replaced by vocalist/violinist Marianne Tasick. Vibraphonist Paul Carroll joined in 2010.

That lineup released the 24-song epic Though it Were the Kiss of Death in 2011. Chris Tanis left the band in 2014. The current five-piece lineup released Lake Victoria in 2016 and is now at work on a third full length.

A patchwork of full band tracks, trio songs, demos, and experiments, From the Aether captures this long-running band in its formative years and highlights the correspondence and the contrast between the two founding songwriters.
